William A. Kibbe & Associates provided professional design services for a $20 million dollar renovation for Gestamp North America in Chelsea, Michigan.

This extensive renovation was completed on a 180,000 SF building that had been vacant for five years, and the project was finished in summer 2018.

Renovation design and upgrades to the existing facility were made to accommodate new welded assembly equipment, warehouse/shipping area, quality control lab, weld destruct and testing lab space, restrooms, office rooms, mechanical and electrical equipment rooms.

Two new additions were a part of the overall project. A 20,000 SF addition houses a new 4,000 metric ton dual bed transfer press, 40 ton bridge crane, scrap tunnel, and fully enclosed scrap handling and sorting structure. While another 16,000 SF addition houses a new e-coat line. This addition required special equipment foundations, a hazardous chemical containment area, and an industrial ventilation system for the new process.

Various portions of the old building were removed, truck docks and areas of the exterior façade were repaired, and 20,000 SF of office space was completely renovated and upgraded for the new building owner.
